Fuji F600EXR
Submitted by Karen J on Mon, 31/10/2011 - 14:13
I currently have a HS10 which I love but wanted a smaller camera that I could have with me at all times but would be able to take good photos.
Has anyone used the F600 as this is the camera I am thinking of purchasing.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Karen

Hello Karen,
I have just bought an F600 EXR. Now bear in mind I am a beginner and don't know very much but my first impressions are:
1. Every picture I take, in all conditions, the whites are very badly blown. Don't know if it's me but none of the settings I change seem to make much difference.
2. The quality of the video is quite good but the zoom on the video is frankly not fit for purpose.
3. Am going to give it a few more days then will probably return it.
Hope this helps

I have the F300EXR as a 'carry everywhere' camera to supplement my Olympus DSLR.
I love it. It takes a while to know which settings are best in order to avoid such things as blown whites, but it is possible. If you are not feeling like spending so much, look at an earlier version. F300/F500 etc.
I have no doubt that it will serve you well.

Here are my two reviews on the F300EXR. One from the model that Fuji lent me a year ago (RRP £300) and one from the camera that I eventually bought (£150) this summer.

I bought the F600EXR about a month ago, having previously owned an F200EXR and and F30 before that. I'm afraid I'm really pretty disappointed. Image quality isn't bad in good conditions, but low-light performance is frankly not up to the hype and anything above ISO200 is very noisy.
My biggest problem is that is just takes forever to start up. With no card in it's pretty much instant, but with an SD card in it takes between 8-10 seconds to start which is completely unnaceptable for a compact. I've lost so many shots waiting for the flipping thing to start up I've pretty much given up on taking it out with me now.
Very disappointing, I'm afraid this will be my last Fuji. Successive generations have proven disappointing, adding flashy features which look good in the brochure at the expense of actual usability and image quality.
Also, what's the deal with shipping Mac support software that only runs on PowerPC Macs, which haven't enem been made for over five years?

I have an f600 its start up time is only around 2-3 seconds and thats with a 16gb card, i think this little camera is outstanding, its picture quality is superb as is its features, i dont get blown out whites very often as i use its manual controls extensively, also i dont see noise at iso 200 but at 400 there is very very low amounts of noise, at 800 you can see it creeping in a bit all in all a fabulous little camera, i love it.
