I got a Canon Pixma all in one for £37 last year on Amazon. It came with a £20 voucher refund from Canon. It prints photos just great. Not bad for £17.I gave up on Epsom printers. If you leave it unused for any length of time the cartridges dry up and you have to replace them.

I think it depends on your usage, some are cheap to buy and cost more to run, and vice versa. Whether you want an all-in-one (with document scanner) or not. And if your printing for profesional use those with pigment inks (as opposed to dye based inks) produce longer lasting prints.Personally I'd go for an HP if you want an all round printer, I use an HP photosmart D5460 and am very pleased with it.I believe the Canon Pixma's are highly rated for photo quality printing too. The last review I saw when I was looking around seemed to indicate Epson have gone downhill a bit in recent times.

I recently bought a Epson R285 complete with Continuous Ink System for around £90.

The pictures are superb and the ink costs are very low.

eg The ink for a full A4 print using manufacturers cartridges cost about £2.00 per print whereas using the CIS this drops to around 5p per print.

The Epson R285 is not one of Epson's more recent printers, but is good value and works well for me.

If you just want a printer that will print standard photo's then I recommend the Sony DPP-FP70 photo printer, you can edit the pic via the screen before printing. It also allows you to create little desk calendars.

Really good value I got it for £30 from argos, buy the ink from amazon though you get very cheap value packs there, well worth it.

Love life, value the right to be yourself. Your independance is forever precious.

Kodak also doing  new ones and ink at a lowish price.....

all depends what you want from the images ... printers not too expensive  but they make the money on the inks ... cis is a good deal.....if you take the ink you use over a year..depending on how many prints..i bet it would cost a bomb just per litre ...

if you only printing a few images watch out for the ink drying up on the heads... and if only doing a few maybe cheaper to get prints done for you....

I use an HP Photosmart C6280 All-In-One, ok it has 6 ink carts including Black (large).

I have used many printers but this one, in my opinion beats all.

My opinion as to photo output is not just the printer it depends on the quality of paper used.

Its like a camera, thats the part that captures your image, what your image contains ie, detail etc; is down to the user.

I have an Epson D120 and an all in one DX8400, replacing older Epsons.  They will be the last Epsons I buy - ink costs have gone from high to extortionate.  I belive Epson have taken a vigorous 'sue and closedown' line against compatibles in the USA and look set to ensure we can only buy their ink.

I do rather like the Kodak business model - priters priced properly and ink reasonably rather than the priter being almost free and ink very high.  That might be my next step.

Inkrite are still producing very respectable ink at not too bad a price for Epson - while I still had a 1290, it produced very good results and no problems.

George - I agree - Inkrite have been excellent.  I normally buy from Choice, but they tell me that Inkrite are no longer alowed to produce Epson compatibles (not sure if this is equine droppings or the truth).  The recycled ones choice supplied last time have caused me no end of problems - even printing out some plain text this evening on the D120 has cost me half an hour of  head cleaning and fiddling even on carts that were fine this morning - so when they are used up the epson will be introduced to its new friend for life, the skip, and I will start over.

MX2 are still advertising Inkrite for Epson? If you do give your Epson the bum's rush, you could try Canon - my Pro 9000 is as good as the 1290 for quality, and has never clogged, prints CDs direct and takes Inkrite inks with no problems! Admittedly it is more expensive, but seems better built too - and Canon do lots of other printers. I have friends who have the simpler ones that seem to work well too.

Stay away from Epsom unless it will be in use constantly. Cartridges tend to dry up and prints become 'dirty'. I'd go for HP but Canon are good too.

Hello all bloggers. i like to add a good comentary about the question on top. All printers canon, epson, hp, kodak, sony etc, are good for printing pictures. You may be aware that the results may be diferent from brand to brand, even the printers are in the same system (for example: InkJet). Also i can say that in the last year i made an investigation about printing systems and the results are very educational. For example, the laser printing process of fuji frontier 400dpi is good, has very fine detail, but tend to contrasting image, you probably lose details in the dark areas, and the inkjet process the same picture get more detail in dark areas, because the printing process use 300 dpi, less contrast but sufficient dpi for photo quality. So you may be testing the printing systems to choose the better system for your photos.

good afternoon

If you are looking for gallery quality then I strongly recommend the Canon Pixma Pro printers. They are not cheap, but very reliable - and the supplied profiles for Canon media are very accurate in my experience.. I used to rate Epson, but have not been happy with their more recent offerings...

Both Canon & Brother have a facility to upload an image to their web site and they'll send you a sample printout from your chosen printer. Which can be A3 in Brothers case.

Like Bob, I used to like Epson printers too - the quality was excellent at the 1440 dpi end - but they were forever clogging up, and the average lifespan of a 1290 (over three versions) was only 18 months before an irreparable mechanical fault (cracking ribbon cable) put paid to them. So I changed to Canon - the quality is the same, they don't clog up and so far the life is better - and it prints direct on my jazz compilation CDs! I think ink costs may be slightly higher (maybe because the 9000 uses 8 inks?), but not wildly so. I use Inkrite inks, which are indistinguishable from the originals, both Epson and Canon.

I think this is what you might call a recurring interest, Angie. Newcomers to the site, perhaps from another country, may well not know what went before? It should also be helpful to anyone thinking of changing their printer.

Hello Dave, may be you are asking why i bring the theme back, well, i like photography since i was a child, now a have 35 years and 12 years as a professional photographer. I have entered in this web because of my job, i work at Fujifilm de México and i give support for digital cameras and printers. I became a specialist using all tipes of cameras, not only fuji finepix, and diferent printing services and printers. I want to help people to undestand what photography is. Maybe you no trust in my words, but the thing i can tell you is that i have been made many investigations in the past to understand why the printed photo does not look like what you see in the LCD and Computer Screen. Also i have been ask of why the same paper (Ink jet for example) is printed so diferent way from an epson or an hp printer. That's why i been given responses and advice about the questions above. Now you can see my profile new info about me. Please be aware that i want help you from my desk and experience. So if you want to take or no this advice is ok for me, but please let other people to take it. It may be educational for them.

We are trying to know each other. Please Know me. I am here in mexico, i like photography so bad that i eat, breath, and live for photography, whitout this i am nothing.

Greetings from mexico, beautiful land.

Rodrigo - thanks for feedback on this.

The problem with your profile is that you have an 'accented a' in your name. When you click on your name then the profile shows up as blank -

http://www.myfinepix.es/es/user/rodrigo-hernández

However, if I change this to -

http://www.myfinepix.es/es/user/rodrigo-hernandez

in the header then the profile displays correctly.  Changing the 'accented a' for an unaccented a.
I think this is why some people think you are not a 'real' user.  This has happened before with other users who have 'special' characters in their name.

Hi everyone, the reason why mi last name hernandez has an accented "a" is because in spanish that's how my real name writes correctly. I am sure that this is strange for you and i understand why it has been to much intrige about my name, thas my real name i usualy don't use nick names. Even my email has the three first letters of my fullname, rodvivherram. to make this easy i will change this Accented "a" for you can contact me if you want.

thank you

Actually i have two points of view, the person who works in the industry, and my experience as a photographer. Maybe i can help someone with this and gain friends all over the world. Some times you need assistance of two different persons, i am a combined one. I have the experience of working in a photo store, a lab, a photo studio, freelance, and now giving support. This experience may be useful for someone, please ask, if you not know nothing about a process inside the making a Good Picture.
