Day out to Windsor and getting to use my S1900
Yesterday I decided to have a day out to Windsor with my better half Barry, a town I have been to many times before to go shopping but one I have never really had a good look around. So I decided to look at Windsor in a different way and I took my S1900 along so that I could play around and get some good photos along the way. Apologies for some of the photos being a bit dark or slightly out of focus, but it was the first time I have given it a proper use and so I have already learned so much.
The first stop where I took photos was at the Windsor and Eton Central station. This is in the heart of Windsor and the easiest station for me to get to from Slough. Yes Slough is not far away and so we could have driven there, however it is cheaper and less hassle to get the train.

There were even some old fashioned telephone boxes and you also get a nice view of the Windsor wheel which is something I can see on my walk home from the station in Slough when it is dark as it is illuminated at night. When I first moved to Slough I had no idea about the Windsor Wheel and so I convinced myself it must be the London Eye I could see. (Hmm how many people are laughing at that).
The first stop after coming out of the station was to go to M&S to get some food so we could have a picnic in one of the parks near the river. After getting some food for the picnic we headed out towards Windsor Castle where I saw a horse and carriage and had to get a photo.I later found out you can go on a carriage tour ride if you want.
If you don't fancy the expense of the Horse and Carriage ride, you can always take a tour of Windsor on the open top tour bus.
We now headed down to find out spot to have a picnic, we stopped at Alexandra Park, this is where the Windsor Wheel is. The park was packed as there seemed to be a summer fair on, so we kept walking until we find a quiet shady spot. Here is a panoramic view.
Here are some photos of the Windsor Wheel.

We then started to head towards the river so that we could have a walk along it. On the way there is another open area where you can walk around the brick path maze, the kids love doing this lol.
It was now time to have a wander along the river, there were plenty of ducks, geese and swans, however I have plenty of photos of swans at the moment due to a trip to Reading a couple of weeks ago. However I did get a couple of photos of the boats you can hire, either rowing, or motorised.
From the walk along the river it was time to head back up and down the hill to look at the Castle. Here are some of the photos I got while walking around it.
As we headed up the hill there were a couple of signs that caught my attention. Also an interesting shop that I have walked past before and was going to again but this time got a photo, couldn't go inside as it is packed full of those evil calories many of want to shift and not gain. lol.
We then waked back to where all the tourists go, the entrance where you can have a tour of Windsor castle, it was getting late on in the afternoon now and so no time for a tour as the happy chappy in the picture below told us, not worth paying for a tour when you are running out of time. It was also in this area where I was asked to take a photo of a Chinese couple and child, they clearly trusted me to take the photo and not steal their camera lol.I also managed to get a photo of the flag which showed the Queen was indeed home today. It was on full zoom so the quality is not fantastic as I did not have a tripod with me.
It was now time to head back towards town, there was one shop I needed to get to before it closed, however on the way I got a photo of these women dressed up. They were advertising a photo studio and lots of tourists were getting their photos taken in the throne. I was going to get Barry to get a photo of me however every time I went near it a tourist jumped in, by this point my legs were hurting so much I just wanted to go home lol so I skipped the photo opportunity. Also got a photo of the statue that leads up to the road where the tourist entrance to Windsor Castle is.
These last 2 photos are for the ladies, these are the 2 most expensive jewellery shops, a work colleague dragged me into Links in April when were buying someone a leaving present. I nearly had a heart attack at seeing the prices. I then looked in Pandora and my god the prices were even higher. If you have money to burn, these are the places to go lol. Or just for fun take your man in there and point out what you would like and watch the colour drain from his face.
Well at long last we are at the end of my first blog. I hope you have enjoyed it, I certainly enjoyed the day out in the sun. I am paying now though with sore feet and achy legs. Must be a sign I should get out more.

Hey Lara, that's some brilliant blog, well done. Lovely photos of the castle and I love the agles you used too. Those policemen didn't look too friendly did they, but the laughing happy chappy made up for it, you don't think he was laughing cos you were too late for the tour do you!!??
Those old trains were something else, reminded me of my childhood. The station was a great photo opportunity too. All in all a great blog, well done and keep them coming.

What a great set of pic s .. and im just about to google what "section 128 of the serious and organised crimes and Police act " is
smoothie police with guns too
cant see in pic but did they have their badge numbers off of their epaulettes?
Love the angled Wheel pic but then i think you know i love angles ..
One thing i will say , and i'm saying it because i used to do it subconsciously is the a few of your pics are leant to the right .. i cured that by using the viewfinder in "frame " mode ..which puts a rule of 3rds grid on the viewfinder
see page 31 of your manual if you were using the s1900 .
The security guard is just perfect ..beer gut and bow legs
i could have taken loads of him but would have been from an odd angle
hehe
Loved looking at all of them .. can't wait til the next one

What an excellent blog Lara, brings back many a memory, mum and dad lived in Windsor Great Park when dad retired as Head Propogator for the Queen in Savill Gardens and I was brought up there from the age of 6 and also worked in the forestry dept there when I came out of the RAF.
Would give this 10 stars if there were 10
Well done absolutly superb

You should be pleased as punch with this blog. It is excellent and provides anyone who reads it with an insight to whats on offer in Windsor.
It is unfortunate that after you have made the personal effort to learn how to produce such a great blog that it has been pushed down by single shot blogs from people who do not bother. More power to your elbow, keep on blogging.
