It rises and it sets...
On a wet and windy damp amd miserable saturday with not much else to do (don't let Lesley read that !!) I've decided to put together a compilation of sun rises and sunset shots from around Cumbria and Barrow.
Hope it cheers you up on a chilly winters day.

We'll start with a sunset one from 2009 and a liquid gold shot down Coniston.

Living on the west coat we get some wonderful sunsets, Patrick looking rather thoughtful.

Lesley takes her turn looking all thoughtful on Birkrigg common near Ulverston.

Getting out early to walk means some super sunrises as well. Dawn on Lake Bank at Coniston

An early set off into Wasdale and a dawn silhoette over some of Englands highest peaks. It was -2 when I left the car and 21 deg when I returned later in the day!!

Some big skies

An artistic view :-)

A pink dawn looking towards Piel Island (which incidently has its own Knig!!)

Back to the coast

On the way home from work and I couldn't resist calling in the docks for a sunrise over these 3 frigates.

Back to Birkrigg and a misty evening, fantastic.

Sunset from the top of Coniston Old Man, a fabulous late afternoon walk.

Mrs A shivers at the top with the Scafells in the distance.

My lovely hills silhouetted from Askam beach.

No matter what the weather, there's always someone looking to make make the most of living on the coast.

This picture made Lancashire Life magazine, my 1st published image.

A late evening trip up Caw at the end of the Coniston fells, views over Devoke Water and Sellafield.

Some Love on the beach...

A HDR working over the limestone slabs on Birkrig common.

Over a local pond close to the shore line, dramatic colours and reflections

Snow covered tops from the top of the hill near our house.

A family shot of my sisters crew.

A tranquil scene down Walney beach towards Black Coombe. It's not always this nice!!

Although it's hard to believe on nights like this.

Wastwater turns to gold as the sun departs.

Delightful as the waves break gently onto the shore.

No matter how many times you witness the sun dipping behind the horizon, it's always a captivating moment..

If only we could bottle it!!!
A bit self indilgent, but it's cheered me up

Cheers folks, I'm lucky where I live I get can enjoy the coast and the hills, but it comes up and goes down everynight, you just have to sieze the moment and get out there and grab them.
It's become an obsession now, as soon as I see those orange tones building I grab the camera and off I go.
PS Have booked both up and downs for May
PPS We might have to make do with some Love on the hills .......

Outstanding. For me its between Walney Beach and the first shot.
You are lucky in location. If I ever get the chance to take a sunset over a Norfolk beach we will all be in trouble.

Beautiful photos Ian! My favourite is the "Lancashire Life" mag shot....just stunning. I love the beautiful blues you have managed to get into that sunset shot, often missing from classic sunsets, and the depth of field is fantastic. My eye gets drawn to gthe sun, but also wants to keep studying the detail of the rocks and the shadows. A truly beautiful image, thanks for sharing Ian.

Strange innit, I have never felt the need to move! Mr L has, in his time, run marathons, played rugby for county, cricket for county, played squash. He rides a mountain bike (over mountains) and walks for miles.
He has creaky knees and a bad back. I don't.
Fabulous pictures, as usual Ian, love the family silhouette, that one is rather special.
