I can show you how to turn this:

Into This:

This is done in three Simple Steps in Paint Shop Pro, i use version X (10) but it works in any.

Step 1: Open your image, click on "Enhance Photo" and Click Clarify, Set the selection to the highest (20) and click apply.

Step 2: Click "Enhance Photo" again and Click High Pass Sharpen, set the selections to the highest again and click apply.

Step 3: Repeat these 2 over, experiment with the settings and make some Awesome Photos Laughing out loud

Hope This Helps

Hi Kayne. hope the new s9600 is all you hoped it would be, I love mine. This is a good article, It sort of works in photoshop as well. I have been trying the auto HDR in photoshop ( merge to HDR) but it dosen't produce propper hdr images I did a post on the forum a while ago about this and got some good responce.http://www.myfinepix.es/forum/3/11915. Apparently the software to use is photomatix or one other I cant remember. Anyway both are a bit costly so I stick to tutorials like yours and trial and error. It is sometimes worth giving the resulting image's curves a bit of a tweek , this enhances the hdr feel . This is an artist who really brought HDR to my attention and whos images I havent seen beaten.

Hi Neil

"This is an artist who really brought HDR to my attention and whos images I havent seen beaten."

You certainly chose the correct word by describing him as an "artist"

Just had a look through some of the gallery and all I can say is.............well actually I'm lost for words to describe the work other than Talent...Skill...Imagination it's all in there and I only wish I had 1% of what he's got!

Thanks for bringing it to our attention

Cheers Stuart

I gave it a go but PSP 8 is lacking the high pass sharpen function and clarify has a max of 5 so it didn't happen for me. I'll have to stick with Dynamic Photo HDR.

I just ordered PSP Photo X2 from Amazon.  £43 delivered.  There was one site offering at £36 + p&p but the site wouldn't load so they can kiss goodbye to my custom for having a crappy server.

Itching now to get the new software and get going. Fake HDR?  Isn't ALL HDR about being fake?   Fake perfect lighting all the way through the shot.  It has to be the absolute perfect shot to look good too.

Not wanting to sound nasty but the effects on the tank could have been produced using my PSP 7 with the equalize and brighten/contrast, plus maybe a bit of saturation.  Certainly improved the shot though.

Now that's a good tip.  Who said that every shot merged had to be full colour but bracketed?  That's a great effect Cambium.

There are a couple of other programs out there Photomatix (google it you can download a trial version and have a play) and Dynamic-photo HDR, these are really for 'proper' HDR compilation but you can use a single photograph and fake the result.  there are a couple of HDR images on my gallery page and on my website most are proper 3 image shots bracketed at +- 2.

The HDR effect makes a big difference to what might be a slightly bland photo, the effect does work exceedingly well on skies and areas of shadow.

Did try this, Kayne, but the clarify function in my version of Paintshop has a limit of 5.  Would entering 5 several times have the same effect?  Thanks.

Sorry for butting in so long after the initial post but I have only just found it!

I haven't tried this effect but it does look interesting, there is the added advantage that it can be made into a script and given a name to make it easier to repeat the process Wink
